IDEA of Diriyah: Un(confined) to Time nor Space
In this project I looked at how the boundaries of Diriyah, the 15th century capital of the first Saudi State, had changed throughout the years by it assuming different roles and serving distinctive purposes since its first inhabitation. I aimed to show that in its prolonged history, the process of how Diriyah was perceived had been controlled by shifting and conflicting narratives which conversely operated on nostalgically sentimental conceptions, at times constructive—deeply urging for remembrance, and at other times destructive—strategically pleading for abandonment.
