Diriyah’s Urban Form: Transition as Condition

This project looked at the transitional interrelationship between the two superseding Saudi capitals of Diriyah (the 18th century capital of Saudi Arabia) and Riyadh (the current capital). More specifically, it mainly traced the transitions which Diriyah went through as it was forced to assume diverse sets of roles in its prolonged history from its first inhabitation in the 15th century, up to its current nostalgic role as a cornerstone to the country’s turn towards heritage tourism.
