Accommodating Aleppo: Accumulative Layers of Re-Appropriating a Dynamic Urban Fabric
Aleppo is a city which oversaw numerous trials and tribulations in its prolonged and multifaceted history. It is a city which witnessed an overlaying of numerous cultures in history, Hittites, Assyrians, Akkadian, Greeks, Romans, Umayyads, Ayyubids, Mamluks, and Ottomans, all leaving their marks and reflecting certain aspects of their respective cultures on to the built environment. This research project looked at the urban and architectural features which allowed Aleppo remarkable ability to accommodate the re-appropriation of different successive cultures.
