Mud City: Perceptions and Misconceptions of Diriyah

This research looked at how a nostalgic commemorative perspective of the past was ostensibly steering Diriyah’s future development plans, and argued that instead of reducing its professed historical significance with the confinement of its ‘heritage’ to the mere aesthetic surface layer, Diriyah needs a reconfiguration of its re-development plans for a more inclusive paradigm; one that does reflect Diriyah’s avowed processual, expansive, and prolonged past, to steer its future in a comprehensive, coherent and an equitable way.
